Dr Gerry Frizelle is a course tutor on the MPhil course in Industrial Systems, Manufacture and Management (ISMM). Gerry was Assistant Director of Research at the Institute for Manufacturing. While at Cambridge he has been involved in both teaching and research.
His major research interest has been in developing measures for complex systems in manufacturing and supply chains, and in developing procedures to enable the measurements to be carried.out. The ideas have been used by companies in the UK, US and Germany. His other research interest has been the creation of a computer based tool to help small to medium sizes companies (SMEs) formulate strategy.
Prior to coming to Cambridge he spent fifteen years working for Cape plc. During that time he held posts as factory manager, production director, general manager and finally Managing Director, responsible for three operating subsidiaries.
After that he set up the European operation of Scheduling Technologies, an international consultancy selling and implementing manufacturing control systems.
He holds an MA and a PhD from Cambridge, a MSc from London and a BSc from Belfast.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, a Fellow of Operational Research and a Chartered Engineer. He was the first ever winner of the Award for Excellence presented by the International Journal of Operations and Production Management and has been listed in Marquis Whos’s Who in Science and Engineering. He is Chairman of Sirius Concepts Ltd, a Scottish-based consultancy company.
