
Professor James Moultrie
Senior Lecturer in Design Management
Professor James Moultrie is a Professor of Engineering Design at the Institute for Manufacturing, Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow in engineering at Selwyn College.
Background
James has a background in both industrial design and mechanical engineering. Before joining academia, James had an industrial career, as a project manager, senior engineer and marketing product manager. In industry he was responsible for numerous projects, including metrology instruments and a range of lenses for the movie industry for which he was awarded a 'Scientific and Technical Academy Award' (Oscar) and an Emmy in 2000. James is also a Chartered Mechanical Engineer (IMechE).
Research interests
James coordinates the Design Management Group at the Institute for Manufacturing. Current research interests include:
- Design for manufacture and assembly
- The economic value of design in the context of a transition towards a low consumption economy.
- Engineering design education
