Charlotte Catignani

Third Party Associate

Charlotte has joined IfM Engage as a third party associate, specialising in the use of structured approaches to accelerate the translation of mental health research into innovations delivered at scale.

Charlotte is also the Innovation and Engagement Manager at The William Templeton Foundation for Young People’s Mental Health (YPMH). YPMH works to improve the lives of young people by facilitating innovative approaches to resolve mental health conditions. This is achieved by:

  • Collaborating with researchers to understand the underlying causes of mental health problems, and how to diagnose, treat and, ultimately, to prevent them.
  • Building ‘Communities of Interest’ between researchers, health practitioners, policymakers, innovators and families to focus on specific causes and potential solutions, and bringing those into effect sooner.
  • Inspiring innovations, nurturing effective ideas emerging from research which can develop into viable solutions to make a difference in practice.
  • Enhancing practice through better understanding of underlying causes of mental health disorders, and enabling a more joined-up approach to treating the ‘whole self’ across the lifespan.

Before joining YPMH, Charlotte worked in R&D and commercial leadership roles in a food ingredient manufacturing company. During this time, she initiated, implemented and managed multiple international projects to enable the commercialisation of new manufacturing processes and products. She commercially managed a highly successful product category, led the product management team and was involved in business transformation initiatives, using business intelligence, market research and strategic decision making tools to create business plans and drive strategic direction. While in these roles, she was an active member of the IfM Open Innovation Forum for nearly 10 years, working with organisations across the food and drink value chain to share best practice, understand future markets and identify collaboration opportunities.

Charlotte has a BSc(Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Bradford and undertook postgraduate research at Bradford in anti-cancer medicinal chemistry. She holds various training certifications including the IfM certificate in strategic technology and innovation management,  the Sequent certificate in product management and the Deakin University Food and Mood Centre certificate in nutritional psychiatry.
