Dr Keno Haverkamp

Research Associate

Keno Haverkamp is a Research Associate at the Center for Science, Technology and Innovation Policy at the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM). His interests lie in industrial innovation systems and sustainability transitions with a particular focus on the role green industrial policies can play in shaping these transitions and ultimately support industrial leadership in green technologies.

Keno’s research lies at the intersection of evolutionary economics, industrial organisation, and political economy. He is particularly interested in understanding how emerging green technologies are impacted by technology-push and demand-pull dynamics and the sequencing thereof. His work focuses on understanding the role of demand and market dynamics vis-à-vis technological development not only for driving transitions but also shaping underlying industrial dynamics. This includes understanding the evolution of emerging technologies, related industrial organisation, and the political economy of industrial and innovation policies across different sectors such as the wind turbine manufacturing sector and the batteries sector.

Prior to joining the IfM, Keno obtained his PhD from the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose at University College London. Before the PhD, he worked as a research economist for the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and continues to work as a consultant on industrial development, renewable energy, and green hydrogen. He has delivered capacity building trainings for policymakers in several countries in the Middle East and Africa.
