Rahul Patil

Doctoral Researcher

Rahul is a doctoral researcher at the Institute for Manufacturing within the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge, supervised by Prof. Frank Tietze. His research examines innovation and intellectual property management in the context of socio-technical transitions and systems innovation, with a particular focus on how intellectual property strategies can support and coordinate large-scale societal transformation in response to global challenges. He is a recipient of a doctoral fellowship awarded by the Cambridge Trust.

 

Prior to joining Cambridge, Rahul worked at the Science Technology Innovation (STI) Policy Secretariat, Government of India, where he contributed to the development of India’s forthcoming fifth National STI Policy. He subsequently served as a research associate at the Indian Patent Office, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, supporting work on intellectual property policy and entrepreneurship-related initiatives.

He has also contributed to policy and programme support for major national initiatives, including the National Quantum Mission and the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems, at the Policy Research Cell, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.

 

Rahul holds a postgraduate degree in Chemistry from the University of Pune, along with diplomas in patent law and management. He has contributed to research projects on patent informatics and non-personal data governance at the Indian Institute of Science and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
