IfM visiting researcher awarded Stafford Beer Medal

The paper deals with assessment of the business value of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology in department stores.

IfM visiting researcher Jasser Al-Kassab has won a prestigious award for the best paper published in a leading scientific journal.

 

Dr Al-Kassab, currently working with Andy Neely of the IfM, has been awarded the Stafford Beer Medal by the European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS).

 

Along with his co-authors Prof. Dr. Frédéric Thiesse, of the University of Würzburg, and Prof. Dr. Elgar Fleisch, of the University of St. Gallen, he was awarded the Medal for their 2009 paper ‘Understanding the value of integrated RFID systems: a case study from apparel retail.’

 

The paper deals with assessment of the business value of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology in department stores.

 

The award is named in memory of Stafford Beer, a world leader in the development of systems ideas and President of the Operational Research Society 1970-71.

 

The Stafford Beer Medal is awarded in recognition of the most outstanding contribution to the philosophy, theory or practice of Information Systems and / or Knowledge Management published in the European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS) or Knowledge Management Research & Practice (KMRP) within the relevant year.

 

Earlier this year, Dr Al-Kassab and his fellow authors were awarded the prestigious EHI Science Award for the best cooperation between academia and the retail industry.
