Mr Ashok Thakur, Special Secretary of the Department of Higher Education in India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development, visited Cambridge recently.

He was here to learn about the University’s education and research system and to discuss India’s new higher education initiatives. India is establishing a number of new autonomous Innovation Universities, which will aim to compete with the world’s best academic institutions. He suggested that there was potential for UK involvement in setting them up.

His visit to Cambridge was organised by the British Council’s UK India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI).
