Synthetic Biology

Aim

The aim of this blue sky project is to determine a way in which biological material, such as enzymes, can be introduced into mainstream technology, such as microelectronics, in specific and controllable ways using rapid, pollutant free and energy efficient processes.

Progress to date

So far the brand new labs have almost been set up and an initial specific research objective has been identified which is to attempt to pattern a substrate using FIB patterning to see if DNA binding enzymes will bind specifically to controllably patterned regions.

The enzymes are attached to a fluorophore which can be readily detected to determine the absence or presence of specific binding to different sized features.
