Wentao Zhang is a Doctoral Researcher in the international manufacturing group under the supervision of Dr. Yongjiang Shi. His research focuses on advancing the strategic reconfiguration of Global Value Networks (GVNs) within VUCA environments, aiming to bridge the gap between industrial resilience and the complexities of geopolitical and regulatory uncertainty.
Wentao is particularly interested in global production networks, internationalisation strategies, and the strategic responses of multinational corporations (MNCs) in sectors such as electric vehicles and advanced manufacturing. His research seeks to bridge engineering insights with business and strategic logic, with a particular focus on AI-enabled industrial strategies and their role in reshaping global manufacturing and GVNs.
Before joining IfM in January 2026, he obtained a Master’s degree in Digital Information Management and Systems Innovation from the University of Leeds. He has professional experience in management consulting, specialising in organisational performance and talent management for manufacturing and technology-oriented MNCs in China.
