Bernard is a Doctoral Researcher in Business Model Innovation and Technology Governance at the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), where he is supervised by Professor Chander Velu, who leads the Cambridge Business Model Innovation Research Group (CBiG). He holds an MPhil in Technology Policy from Cambridge Judge Business School and is a member of both Emmanuel and Hughes Hall Colleges. Prior to this, he completed a BSc in Politics and Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where he developed a foundation in econometric analysis and research design.
Research Interests
His research examines how long-lifecycle manufacturing firms can redesign their supply chains and business models to enhance responsiveness, sustainability, and technological integration. It explores how traditional engineering organisations can transition from legacy, product-centric structures toward adaptive, service-oriented models through the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies such as IoT, AI, and cyber-physical systems.
A central focus of his work is understanding how organisational capabilities, leadership, and human capital can complement digital transformation to support the shift from “make-and-sell” to “sense-and-act” business models. His current research aims to develop strategic frameworks that enable sustainable business model transformation in long-lifecycle industries. Through qualitative case study workshops and quantitative performance assessments, the project investigates how these firms can promote agility, circularity, and long-term value creation within complex industrial environments.
Background & Experience
Before joining IfM, he gained professional experience across technology innovation, digital transformation, and strategy. He has worked with Rolls-Royce Future Programmes on digital transformation initiatives, and with Amazon in operational and business development functions. He was also involved in driving the development of ConsultingSim, an EdTech venture that supports aspiring consultants through simulated consulting experiences and applied learning in technology-driven problem-solving.
Through his academic and professional journey, he remains committed to advancing research and practice at the intersection of industrial transformation, digital strategy, and sustainable value creation.
