Next generation supply chains: making the right decisions about digitalisation

Digital technologies present huge opportunities for supply chain transformation. For many global organisations, the challenge is to identify which aspects of their supply chains should be the focus of their digital attentions. The University of Cambridge’s Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) has published a new executive briefing, ‘Next generation supply chains: Making the right decisions about digitalisation’ based on research from the IfM’s Centre for International Manufacturing and insights emerging from its work with industrial partners. It is intended to help supply chain strategists make sound digital decisions that support corporate objectives.

The paper covers:

  • The impact of digitalisation across the end-to-end supply chain
  • A new framework designed to help organisations structure their approach to supply chain transformation, building on existing strengths to achieve competitive advantage
  • An overview of some of the challenges ahead, looking at both the risks and rewards as well as the skills and technology gaps and barriers to progress.
