IP roadmapping for strategic alignment

Intangible assets such as IP have now been attributed to somewhere in excess of 75 percent of the publicly traded companies. Therefore, people could expect IP to be a top priority for senior management. However, IP still remains a poorly managed asset in many companies. The misalignment of IP and overall business strategy has been discussed as one of the common reasons for the dichotomy. This research contributes to a novel IP management tool focusing in particular on the challenges associated with the strategic alignment of IP strategy with overall corporate or business strategy. To do so we build on the widely used strategic roadmapping approach and develop an IP roadmapping framework as well as a process model for adopting the framework. Project lead: Tianyi Wang
