Application of digital technologies to innovation in manufacturing

Many of the benefits of digital manufacturing arise from being able to gather data and work collaboratively across supply chains. In this context, developing standards and open architectures will have a major part to play in making the digital future a reality. But analysing and sharing data is difficult. The mechanisms for data capture and analysis are hugely variable as are definitions of key terms within the same manufacturing sector.

The report includes the results of a survey of UK manufacturers which shows how important they perceive digitalisation to be, where they anticipate deriving the most significant benefits from it and what are the key competences needed across the value chain.

The report brings together academic expertise from the IfM, Cranfield University and the University of Nottingham and the insights of UK manufacturers.
