A position exists for a Research Assistant/Research Associate in the Department of Engineering in the area of industrial sustainability in the process industry.
This work will be part of an on-going EU funded project. This project is investigating both concepts and tools capable of supporting a broader adoption of energy and resource efficiency strategies in the production systems of any company (large, medium or small).
The key responsibilities of this role are to support and maintain the University's national and international reputation for excellence in teaching and research; contribution to excellence in research will be as a member of a research team carrying out research at a similar level to that undertaken by lecturing staff and will provide substantial scope for academic judgement, originality, interpretation and presentation of results; assist with grant administration and the writing of reports for funding bodies; contribution to teaching will include assistance in the presentation of seminars and may include participation in the research group's teaching programme; participate in the overall contribution of the department/faculty, as appropriate.
Methods used throughout the project will include literature analysis, qualitative research analysis, prototyping new approaches and capturing learning from case studies to inform tool development processes and decision making for resource recovery and retained value. The work will also include writing business update reports, academic papers and public reports based on the project.
Applicants must have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD, preferably in Industrial / Manufacturing Engineering, combined with innovation and sustainability education. The ideal candidate will have published work in the area of industrial sustainability; have knowledge on eco-efficiency practices and / or lean management; have preferably worked in an international environment and have team working experience, especially with working in large research-industry consortia.
Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £25,728 - £30,688 Research Associate: £31,604 - £38,833
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
