The Ecosystems, Platforms and Strategy (EPS) research group focuses on generating both practical and theoretical insights to support innovation and strategic development in manufacturing and services.

Theoretical Focus

We explore broad concepts such as Business Ecosystems and Platforms, expanding into areas relevant to manufacturing and services. Our research covers supply chains, networks, digital platforms, and business ecosystems, providing a comprehensive view of today’s complex industrial environments.

Practical Focus

Our research emphasises developing tools that help companies formulate effective strategies and tactics. We also focus on transferring these insights into real-world practice through teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive levels. This ensures that our knowledge benefits not only academia but also industry professionals and decision-makers.

Industry Impact

Our research outputs have been adopted by organisations including IBM, ATOS, ABN-AMRO, CEMEX, Pearson Education, Leonardo Helicopters, and the NHS. Recently, we have hosted conferences featuring both practitioners and academics to share insights on AI and strategic partnerships as well as general knowledge exchange.

Academic Contributions

Our work is published in leading journals such as the Journal of Business Research, European Journal of Information Systems, and Journal of Service Research, ensuring our research meets rigorous academic standards while remaining relevant to industry.

Consulting and Executive Education

The EPS team is frequently invited to share expertise on ecosystems, platforms, and strategy through:

  • Workshops: Practical, guided sessions using our proprietary tools
  • Executive Teaching: Programmes designed to build organisational capabilities in ecosystem thinking and strategy
  • Strategic Support: Short-term advisory to help firms evaluate and shape their strategic direction
  • Contract Research: Collaborative or independent projects to explore specific research areas or develop digital KPI models tailored to client needs
