Industrial-Innovation Landscape Analysis Inside the Black Box of Modern Manufacturing Systems

This project explores the trends and drivers influencing modern manufacturing systems; the challenges to national competitiveness; the production competencies and technological capabilities to address the challenges; and the implications for research & innovation policy.

Introduction

This integrated project builds on CSTI research activities related to manufacturing foresight, characterization of technological and industrial systems, and analysis of economic value capture from industrial-innovation systems.

 

In particular, this theme investigates the trends and drivers governing global and national manufacturing system evolution; the consequences for competitiveness of (opportunities for) national firms; the production technology capabilities, competencies and infrastructure required to maintain competitiveness; and value chain configurations and linkages that support national economic value capture; the innovation needs required to support competitiveness; and the implications for public research & innovation policies and investment priorities.
