Qiuchen (Vivi) Lu is a research associate in DIAL specialising in Building Information Modelling and the exploitation of infrastructure information for asset management.
Vivi holds a PhD from the University of Hong Kong, where she focused on the role of computational intelligence and computer vision in the Operation &
Maintenance (O&M) of buildings and infrastructure projects. In particular, she developed a semi-automatic image-based object recognition system for constructing as-is IFC BIM based on AI techniques and image classification techniques, which is able to recognize the structure object types (i.e., column, beam, wall, door, and window) and corresponding materials from a single image.
Funded by the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction, Vivi will examine how asset data should be organized, and how data from disparate sources can be brought together to improve operational analytics and decision-making.
