Nick Wellen

Visiting Graduate Student

Nick joined the Institute for Manufacturing as a Visiting Graduate Student in the Innovation and Intellectual Property Management Lab under the supervision of Prof. Frank Tietze. His research focuses on the role of intellectual property instruments in global technology races, with a particular emphasis on battery technologies and the geopolitical dynamics of innovation.

 

Nick is a graduate student in Management and Technology at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, where he specializes in Finance and Sustainable Energies. Prior to joining the IfM, he gained experience across strategy consulting, investment banking, and private equity, including roles at McKinsey & Company, Boston Consulting Group, and Barclays Investment Bank. He also worked with the German Red Cross, contributing to innovation transfer for large-scale emergency responses. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Mannheim and spent a semester abroad at San Diego State University.
