Impact and Operations Manager
Marla Fuchs is the Impact and Operations Manager for the University of Cambridge’s new University Commercialization and Innovation (UCI) Policy Evidence Unit. She rejoined the IfM in July 2021. Previously Marla worked at the IfM in 2009 to assist with the Industrial Systems, Manufacture, and Management MPhil course.
Marla joined UCI from her previous role within the University of Cambridge, based in the Department of Plant Sciences, where she was the Programme Manager and Chief Operating Officer for TIGR2ESS. TIGR2ESS is a £7.8M programme funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF). The programme works to tackle key research issues and their translation, with the goal of bringing resilience, equal opportunities and diversity to the food system in India. From within that role she has helped to create and oversee two further initiatives. The first initiative is a sister programme, MillNETi, which was also funded through GCRF. The aim of the programme is to improve iron nutrition status of people living in Ethiopia and The Gambia by assessing the bioavailability of iron from biofortified millet. The second initiative is a Fellowship programme in partnership with the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) in India for 30 Indo-UK Crop Science Fellowships.
Marla studied mechanical engineering at Rensselaer, in New York and went on to complete an MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development at the University of Cambridge. She has worked in a variety of industries from nuclear fuels to inkjet technology, and later carbon consultancy over the past 20 years. She has been working within higher education for the last 10
