
Lara van Breda is a visiting graduate researcher in the Asset Management group at Cambridge, supervised by Prof. Ajith Parlikad. Her work focuses on modelling industrial diagnostics processes, with an emphasis on Bayesian deep learning, probabilistic reasoning, and the integration of troubleshooting knowledge into machine-learning-based systems.
Lara is a Mathematics master’s student at TUM, jointly writing her thesis with Helmholtz AI. Her past work includes a European Research Council-funded NLP project on hate speech detection in the Global South and research in Hong Kong on AI methods for mathematical finance. She has also led interdisciplinary initiatives focused on AI literacy and bridging academic research with real-world impact.
