
Killian Manyuchi is a Doctoral Researcher under the supervision of Dr Rob Phaal at the Institute of Manufacturing, in the Department of Engineering. He researches visions of the future and portfolio allocation decisions in capital-intensive firms and, provides technical consulting, having worked in the mining and pulp & paper industries for over 20 years.
Underpinned by lifelong learning and university practice interactions, he uses critical questioning, problem-solving and lived experience to mediate on futures, innovation, and transformative change in business and other contexts.
Academic degrees
Before starting on the PhD, Killian studied for four master’s degrees in Industrial & Systems Engineering (at the University of Pretoria), Mining Engineering (University of Witwatersrand), Forest Engineering (University of Stellenbosch) and Project Management (University of Pretoria).
Research Interest
He focuses on visioning and futures, strategic planning and roadmapping, technology management, portfolio and long-term investment decision-making, tools, and approaches to navigate and adapt to VUCA environments.
