Overseas Research Project is full of eastern promise...

The project will run throughout the year culminating in a two-week visit to the two nations with site-visits to leading companies, business organisations and engineering facilities.

Reading between the stripes

The burgeoning technological powerhouses of Malaysia and Singapore are the focus of a new research project by IfM students.

The two countries have become major players in emerging industries such as clean-tech and digital media, and the project aims to provide detailed analysis of the region’s future role in the world’s manufacturing community.

Called “Reading between the Stripes…”, ORP 2010 will look at a number of key research areas. Areas of significant interest include how foreign investment has affected the development of local industry, understanding the opportunities offered to UK companies by the R&D and resource capabilities of both countries, and also investigating the emergence of green technologies.

The project will run throughout the year culminating in a two-week visit to the two nations with site-visits to leading companies, business organisations and engineering facilities. The project continues the IfM’s long tradition of visiting areas of importance to global manufacturing.

The project has already received much interest and support from a large number of companies including Credit-Suisse, McKinsey, BCG, Rolls Royce and RWE Npower.
