IfM take research on the road for Smart Manufacturing and Engineering Week

The Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) will exhibit some of the latest research in digital, management and sustainability at this year’s Smart Manufacturing and Engineering Week on 5 and 6 June at the NEC in Birmingham.

 

The exhibition celebrates the best in UK manufacturing and engineering excellence and innovation. Brimming with expert content, valuable peer to peer interaction and the best products and services available, it is the largest UK festival of advanced manufacturing and engineering, showcasing cutting-edge innovations in hardware and software and solutions to current challenges in industry.

Next door we have the IfM Theatre which houses a packed two-day programme of talks, masterclasses and demonstrations.

 

IfM Masterclasses – 5th June

Day 1 will include our series of strategic masterclasses. IfM Masterclasses provide inspiration for solving complex challenges using approaches and knowledge that are grounded in exceptional research and combined with industrial expertise.

 

The sessions provide the opportunity to explore and work through challenges in a supportive and open environment. Led by IfM Industrial Practitioners who have extensive expertise in supporting organisations across many sectors, and so are ideally placed to answer any questions you have and unpick the problems you are facing.

 

This year’s sessions include:

  • Automation assessment
  • Technology roadmapping
  • Sustainable continuous improvement

These are followed by presentations on:

  • The UK Innovation Report: Machinery and equipment manufacturing focus
  • Women in Manufacturing: Inspiring stories

 

IfM Digital Lab – 6th June

On Day 2 we will showcase technical demonstrations of the IfM’s Shoestring Digital and Connected Factories projects. The demos all showcase different paths to digitalisation for manufacturers and engineering firms.

 

Demonstrations include:

  • AR-based support solution for manual assembly
  • Multi-site inventory tracking
  • Scrap monitoring
  • Job tracking
  • Vibration and power monitoring
  • Air quality monitoring and temperature monitoring

The IfM team will be on hand to talk through the demos and how they can support your business in operating more efficiently.
