Dr Aitichya Chandra

Research Associate

Dr Aitichya Chandra is a Research Associate in Resilient Networks within the Asset Management Group at the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM). His current research focuses on modelling the behaviour of complex networked systems under disruption and designing intelligent, adaptive strategies for resilience and sustainability. In the Asset Management Group, he leads the design and development of dynamic network resilience solutions for Boeing (USA) and contributes to the UK’s National Hub for Decarbonised, Adaptable, and Resilient Transport Infrastructures (DARe).

Dr Chandra completed his PhD in Transportation Systems Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, in 2024. During his thesis, he developed novel analytical frameworks to assess terminal airspace performance, enhance en-route airspace network coordination, and support more resilient gate-to-gate operations. Alongside his key projects, he has contributed to a range of research activities focused on building cleaner, smarter, and more adaptable transportation systems. His overall research interests lie in network science, reinforcement learning, transportation systems, statistical modelling, and optimisation.

During his PhD, he was awarded the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship from 2020 to 2023 by the Government of India. He also holds an ME in Transportation Engineering from BITS Pilani and a BTech in Civil Engineering from MAKAUT, Kolkata.
