Dr Rob Phaal attended the book launch of the Chinese translation of ‘Roadmapping for strategy and innovation’ at the Chinese Academy of Engineering in Beijing on 27 November. This includes updated content and local case studies from Prof Yuan (Joseph) Zhou and colleagues. Rob also gave lectures at seminars organised by Tsinghua University at the invitation of Prof Zhou (also attended by Dr Yuta Hirose from AIIT in Tokyo), and the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), hosted by Prof Xu (Gloria) Guannan. A visit was made to the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE) with colleagues from IfM (Lesley Li, Jon Ross and Dr Wen Liu) to discuss collaboration opportunities.

Then on to Korea for a busy programme facilitated by Dr Hyunkyu Park, at the invitation of Prof Sunjoo Lee, presenting lectures at Ajou University, and also Sogang University, hosted by Prof Joonmo Ahn, with a visit to Seoul National University to meet Prof Yongtae Park. Interesting industrial visits were made to the Hyundai Strategy and Technology Group and Samsung Digital City, to share experience on roadmapping and related approaches in the context of strategic transformation. It was also a pleasure to catch up with Dr Jae-Hun (Jane) Ho and Prof Jung (John) Hoon Lee of Yonsei University, both previously at IfM.
