IfM hosts biggest ever R&D Management Conference

The 2016 annual R&D Management Conference was held in Cambridge between 3 and 6 July.

This year's conference was organised by the IfM’s Centre for Technology Management and the IfM Education and Consultancy Sevices (IfM ECS) events management team on behalf of the Research and Development Management Association (RADMA). It proved to be the biggest RADMA conference to date with more than 450 delegates from 35 countries.

The delegates were here in Cambridge to discuss the many challenges involved in managing R&D so that it delivers real societal, environmental and economic benefits. Industrialists played an important part in the conference, sharing their experiences and challenging the research community to help them create the conditions in which innovation can flourish and new technologies can be brought successfully to market.

As well as being a vibrant forum for the exchange of ideas the conference also represented a major logistical feat. The organising team managed the submission of 270 conference papers, the delivery of 16 workshops, two conference dinners and 300 people punting on the River Cam.

The keynote speakers were:

  • Warren East, Chief Executive, Rolls-Royce
  • Joe de Sousa, UK/US Product Development Science & Technology Lead, AstraZeneca
  • David Teece, Tusher Professor of Global Business, Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley
  • Mark Samuels, Managing Director, NIHR Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure (NOCRI), Centre for Science and Policy

Presentation slides can be found here and a video will be available in due course.
