The future of automation

As part of the University's Alumni Festival, Professor Duncan McFarlane gave a talk entitled 'Should we automate?' to an audience of more than 150 alumni. In it he covered how developments in automation over the next 30 years have the potential to transform both how we work and how we live. Will automation pose a threat to jobs or will it deliver net social and economic benefits? And how can we influence how decisions about automation are made and prioritised?
