Background

Prof Valeriy Vyatkin is with The University of Auckland, New Zealand where he is Director of Industrial infomechatronics and industrial automation lab.


Prof Vyatkin completed engineer degree in applied mathematics at Taganrog State University of Radio Engineering (TSURE), in 1988, a PhD degree in 1992 and higher level doctorates Dr Sci in 1998 (Russia), and the Dr Eng degree (Japan) in 1999. His previous faculty positions were with Martin Luther University of Halle–Wittenberg, Germany (1999–2004), and with TSURE (1991–2002). His research work focused in the area of software engineering for industrial automation systems, distributed architectures and multi-agent systems, reconfigurable manufacturing. Prof Vyatkin is also active in research on dependability provisions for industrial control systems, such as methods of formal verification and validation, and theoretical algorithms for improving their performance.
Prof Vyatkin was involved in joint research projects with companies in the USA, Canada, Austria, New Zealand, Germany and Russia. He is the principal investigator in SmartGrid research project of FREEDM program, funded by the National Science Foundation (USA). He held visiting professor positions at Universities of Cambridge (UK), University of New Brunswick (Canada), University of Paris-Sud (France), Tampere University of Technology (Finland) and Martin-Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg (Germany).
Prof Vyatkin served guest editor for journals: IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, Control Engineering Practice (Elsevier), International Journal of Manufacturing Research (Taylor & Francis), EURASIP Journal of Embedded Systems (Springer).
Recently he has been invited keynote speaker at 3 major international conferences.
