Roman Schumacher

PhD Student

Roman joined the Institute for Manufacturing in October 2019 as a PhD researcher. His research focuses on Supply Chain Risks and Resilience under the supervision of Dr. Mukesh Kumar. He is an undergraduate student supervisor for the Manufacturing Engineering Tripos programme. Roman’s research is generously funded by Valuechain Enterprises Ltd., the Research & Development Management Association (RADMA) and the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC). Roman has been awarded the RADMA Prof. Alan Pearson Scholarship for the best application of the year. Previously, Roman received a master’s degree in Management, Technology and Economics (MTEC) from ETH Zürich and a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the Berlin Institute of Technology (Technische Universität Berlin). During his studies, Roman gained practical experience through internships in the medical device and automotive industry. During his studies at ETH Zürich, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Machine Tools and Manufacturing led by Prof. Konrad Wegener. In addition to his research activities, Roman is active as President of the Cambridge University German Society, as a member of the Graduate Student Committee (Selwyn College), as Analyst at MFC Equity Cambridge and he is member of the EnterpriseTECH programme at Judge Business School.
