Keith CotterillAfter 25 years of successful experience in the technology industry, Keith Cotterill joins the Center for Technology Management at the University of Cambridge as a doctoral student. Supervised by Tim Minshall, he plans to research the role of setback and failure in early stage technology ventures and how this impacts the development of entrepreneurial cultures. This research intends to compare several regions including the UK, Germany and Silicon Valley in California, USA. BackgroundAfter leaving Oxford University in 1984 with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, Keith trained in London and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young. He entered the technology industry in 1989 with Andersen Consulting, working with financial and manufacturing applications and has experienced success with several major shifts in Software, working with leading companies. These technology trends include Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) with Oracle Corporation and SAP; early Internet applications with Netscape Communications; and e-commerce marketplaces with Commerce One. Since 2001, he has created and built multiple software companies including Webify Solutions, sold to IBM in 2006. On the investment side, he joined Vivendi's venture fund as an associate before starting his own early stage seed fund in Palo alto, California. Keith was born in Yorkshire and lived in California from 1992 until 2006. He has worked in 32 countries around the world and retains strong connections with Silicon Valley. |
