Duvan Pineda joined the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) in April 2024 as a Research Assistant for the SMDH project. In this pivotal role, he applies his knowledge in Electronics, IoT Development, and User-centred design to support and guide companies in adopting the low-cost digital solutions developed for improving their manufacturing needs.

Professional Background:

Duvan's journey in the research field started at the Alliance of Bioversity International & CIAT located in Colombia, where for nearly five years developed and deployed different tailored IoT low-cost solutions focused on measuring and controlling crucial variables for plant research.

Working at this centre as a Research associate, Duvan gained valuable experience in problem-solving and improved his creativity and skills while contributing significantly to the digitalisation of classic plant research. Integrating standard technologies, the solutions he developed have been used for multiple crops such as beans, maize and bananas and are one of the fundamental devices of the digital hub for agriculture in Central America.

Education:

Duvan is a bachelor's graduate of Santo Tomas University in Colombia, holding a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) degree in Industrial Automation. At his academic stage, he found his research interests related to Electronics and Computing, IoT, Industrial processes and applying technologies for transversal uses.
