Alan ThorneAlan has been involved with the Auto-ID Centre at Cambridge since its inauguration in 2001, providing expertise within the field of manufacturing automation. As manager of the automation laboratory Alan has been actively involved in research and demonstrations showing benefits that can be achieved by using RFID and EPC network technologies within the manufacturing field. Research Interests
Alan has written and co-authored a number of the Auto-ID Centre white papers and has given presentations on Auto-ID at Board meetings, the EPC Symposium and elsewhere. His expertise has been widely employed on numerous RFID training events globally, including Cambridge University, Easy EPC & RFID Journal. Alan was the co-founder of Aero-ID Technologies programme run from the Cambridge Auto-ID Lab, helping to support the adoption of ID technologies within the aerospace sector. Alan graduated from Anglia Polytechnic University in Electronics and Control Systems and has a varied background in the field of Automation and Control. He has been involved in British Aerospace/IBM research projects as a systems engineer investigating flexible manufacturing systems on civil and military aircraft production. More recently Alan is heading up a new research programme investigating the impact that ID and network technologies will have on Aircraft Turnaround processes. |
