Spinouts

A core part of the national KE metrics programme is focused on data development to better capture the performance and success of universities in producing spin-out companies. This responds to meeting immediate policy needs of Research England, in terms of new and improved metrics for the Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF) and Knowledge Exchange Framework, as well as addressing recommendations made in the expert-led Independent Review of Spinouts in 2023 regarding improvements to spinout data and transparency.

Current projects

  • Improving university spinout data through the Spinout Register
  • Designing a dashboard to track the health and performance of University Spinout Ecosystems
  • Towards a techno-industrial classification of spinouts
