There is a range of opportunities for companies to become involved in the IfM's work through student projects for its education programmes. The host company benefits from the input of a very high calibre student, or team of students and will receive a report and presentation on the project at its completion.
All project opportunities listed here are undertaken as part of taught academic courses delivered by the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), which is part of the University of Cambridge Department of Engineering. The projects make valuable contributions to the learning of students undertaking an MPhil in Industrial Systems, Manufacture and Management (ISMM) or those in their final (4th) year of the Manufacturing Engineering Tripos which leads to an MEng qualification.
Students will typically undertake the project at a company location, which for practical purposes needs to be based in the UK. The costs associated with student accommodation and travel to locations away from the Cambridge area are met by the course.
The calendar below shows the approximate times when the projects are running - projects are typically set up two months prior to the time shown on the calendar. This is when interest in hosting a student project would have to be registered.
The numbers refer to different types of project - see the listing and descriptions below. Click on a list item for details of dates, costs, contacts etc.
