Working with the IfM

Industrial sustainability

Decisions affecting industrial systems are better informed by taking sustainability fully into account. In the IfM we are focused on effectively integrating Sustainability into industrial decision making use of available knowledge, tools, and skills. Selected research will be undertaken to support the development of sustainability knowledge.

Integration of sustainability into global manufacturing and supply networks

Within the IfM there is considerable know-how and leading edge knowledge related to manufacturing and supply networks - see international networks and service and support. Such work has now progressed to the point which allows consideration of the integration of sustainability as an element within such offerings. This work is underpinned by ongoing research.

Sustainability maturity models

Alongside work on manufacturing and supply networks there has been the need to identify the position of an organisation in its network. The maturity model can identify where an organisation might wish to be, and where competitors and exemplars lie. Such analysis can lead to useful insights and action plans for improvement and development. A rigorous model is being developed supported by ongoing research.

Sustainability roadmaps, assessments, and footprints

Within companies and organisations there are varying levels of knowledge about sustainability and its impact on operations. By blending industrial and academic experience within the IfM we offer an interesting and systematic approach to allow definition of the present status of sustainability in an organisation and what steps are required to move forward. Road mapping and foot printing tools are used in this process.
