FormatThe symposium is by invitation only, and attendance is limited to maximum 25 people. The presence of industrialists covers a broad range of industries, and the composition of academics reflects the cross-disciplinary nature of service research. The proportion between the amount of presentation and that of discussion are balanced for a fine mix of thoughts, conversations and observations. Industrial sectionThe industrial section will consist of five 10-min presentations from leading industrialists who share the same desire as academic counterparts to explore the complete picture of SSME. The speakers are encouraged to present their views on the present and future challenges that require particular attention from service researchers. Following the presentations, there will be a group discussion summarising and categorising the challenging issues facing business practice. Approach sectionThe approach section will begin with two 15-min presentations on the development of service research and the development of SSME respectively. This is followed by a group discussion, which will focus on specifying the right approach to developing the field of SSME. Domain sectionBuilt upon the previous two sections, the domain section will try to articulate the various aspects of the SSME domain from multiple disciplinary perspectives. The section is divided into four parts, each of which comprises two or three 5-min presentations and a group discussion. White paper preparationThe closing section will take stock of presentations, discussions, and observations from the above sections. Both consensus and divergence on various topics will be summarised. The participants will be divided into groups, and session moderators will be responsible for first drafts (3-4 pages) of their sessions, incorporating input from all participants who submit relevant written material. |
