Exploring the service transformation journey: workshop on servitization of manufacturingWednesday 22 September 2010The service transformation journey workshop brings together practitioners from organisations and government and leading scholars interested in understanding and growing service businesses, and address the challenges faced in the service transformation journey. In the UK for example, many manufacturers are being forced to develop innovative ways to compete with producers from lower cost economies. One strategy is to strive towards creating value through the addition of increasing levels of services to products. The recession itself is encouraging some manufacturers to study the potential of service business models to improve their resilience. Rolls-Royce Aerospace Plc is just one example of a business which, through their success with offerings such as TotalCare and Power-by-the-hour, generates over 50% of their revenue from product-service contracts. Many other UK manufacturers can also benefit from such strategies. The challenge is to know how to transform your business from production-oriented to servitized and what are the paradoxes associated in the service transformation journey. We have gathered key policy makers, industrialists and scholars on this subject for a day of sharing. There will be presentations from the expert panel, plus real opportunities to share your experiences and views on this exciting topic. The presentations will serve as a springboard for a workshop discussion on the overall paradoxes, impact and challenges of organisations embarking in the servitization journey. The event is organised by Professor Andy Neely, AIM, Dr. Veronica Martinez, Cranfield School of Management and Ivanka Visnjic, K. U. Leuven. It will be chaired by Professor Andy Neely, Deputy Director of AIM.
