The fundamentals of manufacturing management

Evening workshop series, Cambridge, Autumn 2011

Wednesdays:

  • 5 October (Production Systems)
  • 19 October (Project Management)
  • 2 November (New Product Development)
  • 16 November (Finance)
  • 30 November (Management of People)
  • 7 December (Just-in-time management)

These six workshops offer a unique programme for managers and production supervisors who need an introduction to the basic principles of effective production management. Each workshop will focus on a key business area and will demonstrate how fundamental principles can be used to solve everyday management problems. The workshops are suitable for recently appointed managers and experienced supervisors, as well as established managers who would like to refresh their understanding of basic management practice. A certificate of attendance will be sent to attendees at the end of the series.

1 - Production systems - Wednesday 5 October

  • Managing the supply chain

This workshop will look at the systems underpinning production management. It will show how these are used to plan and control activities to achieve performance targets.

2 - Project management - Wednesday 19 October

  • Past project audit and review

This workshop will show how to improve the results of various types of project through effective scoping, planning and management routines.

3 - New product development - Wednesday 2 November

  • Simple trends

This workshop will explore the tools, process and people involved in effective new product development.

4 - Finance - Wednesday 16 November

  • Justifying capital expenditure

This workshop will provide an introduction to company finances. Building on the first workshop it will show how achieving performance targets can lead to successful company results.

5 - Management of people - Wednesday 30 November

This workshop will concentrate on people issues, looking at ways to improve performance through more effective use of people.

6 – Just-in-time management - Wednesday 7 December

Implemented correctly, JIT can improve an organisation's return on investment, quality and efficiency. This final workshop will take the form of a hands on activity drawing on many of the themes demonstrated in the earlier workshops.

Venue

The events will run at the IfM on the University’s West Cambridge Site. This offers excellent teaching facilities and easy access to the region’s transport network.

Each evening workshop is £130.00 plus VAT. If you book to attend all six workshops the fee is £650 + VAT.

IfM members and alumni are entitled to a 20% discount

Cancellations

Substitutions may be made at any time. Bookings cancelled less than 10 days prior to the event will be charged in full.
