Dr Thomas Kelepouris
Research
Thomas Kelepouris completed his PhD in October 2008, under the supervision of Professor Duncan McFarlane. His research focused on the quantification of the value of tracking information in supply chains and the development of a method that could help in a credible assessment of the economic viability of tracking systems, by comparing their cost with the actual value these deliver to the companies.
The research examined how the effectiveness of a tracking system can be evaluated through its ability to support operational decisions and how the value of the system can be measured in monetary terms. The effect of information quality attributes, such as information accuracy and granularity, as well as the impact of different identification and tracking technologies on the final delivered value were analytically examined. Thomas's PhD thesis, under the title "The Value of Supply Chain Tracking Information", covers the following:
- An analytic model that describes the generation of supply chain tracking information, using a Hidden Markov Model, and the decision-making process based on that
- Quantification of the value of tracking information in monetary terms
- Analysis of the impact of information accuracy and information granularity on the value of information, together with the implications that these have on the selection of the appropriate technologies in tracking systems
- A step-by-step method for evaluating tracking systems in industrial cases
- 3 Case studies that demonstrate how the proposed model and methods can be used to evaluate and compare tracking systems in a real industrial setting, pointing out the shortcomings of existing systems and suggesting key improvements
Thomas Kelepouris is also involved in the Aerospace-ID technologies programme (www.aero-id.org) and the European project BRIDGE (www.bridge-project.eu)
Background
Thomas Kelepouris holds a BSc in Informatics and Telecommunications from the National University of Athens (2003) and an MSc in Information Systems from Athens University of Economics and Business (2005). In the past he has worked as a system analyst and information systems developer. During this period, he has had active participation in the development of big scale supply chain management and integration information systems. Moreover, he has worked as a research assistant in ELTRUN Research group of Athens University of Economics and Business (www.eltrun.gr).
