Background

Steve Hoath is a chartered physicist, engineer and scientist with extensive experience in a range of roles including industrial R&D, international technical product support, customer and sales training, project management and client marketing world-wide. His doctorate work was at AERE Harwell and University of Oxford Department of Nuclear Physics, after a first degree at Lincoln College, Oxford, and was followed by RA positions at the Rutherford Laboratory within the High Energy Physics Division and a Lecturership in Physics at the University of Birmingham (held 1979-1986).

Current work

Steve was appointed (2005) to the Inkjet Research Centre as the Research Associate. His EPSRC post is on the Innovation in Industrial Ink-jet Technology (I4T) project.

He combines measurement work, modeling and computational studies on inkjets, fluids and components, primarily as part of the work program funded by EPSRC and a consortium of UK companies. He supports the Imaging Science & Technology conferences and presents his research annually to Non-Impact Printing Conferences. He enjoys his collaborative working with other researchers at Cambridge and Leeds.

Steve was the winner of the Engineering Department's photography competition in 2006 with his photograph of ink droplets entitled "Tales from the nozzle bank".

Other interests

Steve is the Director of Studies for Engineering, and a Governing Body Fellow, at Wolfson College Cambridge, also supervising Wolfson engineering undergraduates. He helps at St Peter’s Church Papworth and is a Badminton England Level 2 coach.
