Ghanim Al-Sulaiti

Doctoral Student

Current Research

Ghanim joined the Business Model Innovation research programme as a research student under the supervision of Dr Chander Velu. His main area of interest is innovation management. He is currently investigating digital platforms and their implications on business models and services.

Background

Ghanim has completed his BSc in Information Systems with a minor in Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and his MSc in Management from University College London (UCL). During his studies at CMU, Ghanim gained knowledge and skills in the fields of computer science and business administration. This enabled him to become involved in interdisciplinary fields. During his studies at UCL, Ghanim participated in a consultancy project with a well-known hotel chain in London to evaluate their new positioning statement and its impact on their services. In addition, Ghanim master’s thesis investigated researchers’ motivation to conduct scientific research and the influence of Intellectual Property Rights and commercialization on their involvement in research activities.

Prior to joining the IfM, Ghanim worked at the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), a member of the Qatar Foundation, as a research analyst. He was responsible for analysing and interpreting data submitted to QNRF. This included data related to research grant applicants/applications, research proposals and peer-reviewers. Moreover, he was responsible for monitoring research grant proposals, as well as establishing communication channels with various research entities and stakeholders. Having participated in several research grant allocation and management activities at QNRF, Ghanim gained invaluable experience which granted him access to participate in international events, such as the United Nations Global Youth Summit in Costa Rica (Sept. 2013) and the Science and Technology Knowledge Sharing Program in Korea (Nov. 2014).

Ghanim is currently funded by the Qatar Science Leadership Program, an initiative by the Qatar Foundation to increase the R&D capacity in Qatar and to participate in achieving the 2030 National Vision of the country.
