Come to the IfM for some laser rocket racing, laser-bunny hopping and FantasTech as part of the Cambridge Science Festival

The IfM will be taking part in the Cambridge Science Festival, two weeks of events and activities whose aim is to get children interested in the world of science.

On Saturday, 23 March, we will open our doors to the public for an afternoon full of exciting activities and talks aimed at children of all ages.

Participants can challenge their agility and timing in the ‘Laser Bunny Hop’, where they have to hop over laser beams produced by the lab’s ‘security bunnies’ and dodge the light pulses to try and avoid triggering the dreaded alarm.

The popular rocket racing will feature again this year: contestants fire lasers at mini rockets and make them speed along a wire track, racing their friends and family to see who has the best aim.

Other activities include creating your very own laser etched metal ID card and using your finger to write on the wall with just your own heat using a thermal camera. Children and accompanying adults will also be able to meet the creators of the revolutionary Raspberry Pi low-cost computer with demos, competitions and hands-on activities.

Join us from 13:00-17:00 at the Institute for Manufacturing, 17 Charles Babbage Road, Cambridge.
