Michael Lyons (day 1)

Michael Lyons has over 25 years experience of telecommunications research, which has included device development for optical communications systems, and studies in the areas of display technologies and the environmental impact of telecommunications. For the past ten years he has worked in the area of business models.

Michael currently leads BTexaCT's Strategic Analysis and Research Team. This team provides business analysis to BT and is responsible for developing computer-based business simulations (including system dynamics models and agent-based simulations). Michael has also worked on a number of strategic studies looking at the future development of the Information Society, and has a particular interest in the new economic and business models which are emerging. Michael's current research interests include systems thinking, complex systems and the way in which computer simulations are used by organisations to support decision-making. Abstract (pdf file)

Dan Jones

Dan Jones (day 2)

Dan Jones founded Lean Enterprise Research Centre in 1994 with Peter Hines, and was co-director until 2001, and is Professor of Manufacturing Management at Cardiff Business School.  He has co-directed two major international studies of the automobile industry with Jim Womack of MIT (The Future of the Automobile Program1980-84 and The International Motor Vehicle Program 1985-90), and he is chairman of ICDP. He co-authored the resulting books, The Future of the Automobile and The Machine that Changed the World, which was chosen as the Best Business Book of 1990 by the Financial Times.  He has continued to work with Professor Womack to explore the practical steps involved in making a lean leap in different industries and countries - discussed at length in their most recent book Lean Thinking.   Dan is part-time Principal of Unipart U, the first company "university" in the UK at the Unipart Group of Companies, was a member of the  government's 'Construction Task Force'  and is a member of the Cabinet Office Foresight Panel on 'Manufacturing 2020'.
