The Engineer in Society

The aims of this lecture series are to introduce the economic, industrial and social contexts within which engineers work.

As specific objectives, at the end of the course students should:

  • Have a knowledge of the economic, industrial and social contexts of engineering.

  • Be able to identify some of the non-technical decisions which engineers need to take.

  • Have explored the similarities and differences between key industrial sectors.

  • Know about the major environmental considerations which influence engineering judgements.
