Engineering Re-use

Background

This project ran from January 1997 - May 1999. The ideas behind reuse are not new. At the highest level manufacturers in many industries seek to build product platforms that can form the basis for many variants. At the lowest level, manufacturers seek economies of production or purchasing scale through the specification of common parts across many product lines. Reuse offers manufacturers many potential business benefits including reduced development costs, lead times, maintenance costs etc.

Sponsors / Collaborators

  • IMI at the EPSRC
  • Marconi Avionics (now part of BAE Systems)
  • Aspect Development Europe Ltd.
