Ten years of technology management research at Cambridge: what has been done and what does the future hold?
David R Probert, Robert Phaal Centre for Technology Management, Institute for Manufacturing, Engineering Department, University of Cambridge, UK AbstractTechnology management research at Cambridge goes back over more than ten years and the Centre for Technology Management was set up within the Engineering Department eight years ago. During that period it has grown to be the largest research centre within the Institute for Manufacturing and has developed many active lines of research and collaborative projects with industry. This paper reviews the research agenda as it has developed over the life of the Centre, reflecting the evolving international interest in the field and the concerns of industrial partners. An assessment is made of what contribution to research, practice and teaching may have been achieved, and the results of a recent poll of future research priorities is discussed. Key emerging themes include technology convergence, determining the future worth of emerging technologies and new business models for the 21st century.
