Practitioner dinner and workshop

Global Manufacturing and Supply Networks

Cambridge, UK, Wednesday 2 - Thursday 3 November 2011

The Institute for Manufacturing, Centre for International Manufacturing (CIM) are holding a one-day practitioner workshop in Cambridge on Thursday 3 November 2011, with a preceding dinner on the evening of Wednesday 2 November. The workshop is aimed at senior industrial practitioners actively working in the area of global manufacturing and supply network optimisation

Workshop Background and Objectives

This event aims to build on the informal community of senior practitioners that has grown steadily over the past few years. This includes leading companies who attend the annual symposium and who have been involved in collaboration on CIM’s research and practical application activities.

The objectives of the workshop are as follows:

  • Provide a structured forum for like-minded, non-competing peers to share experiences and help identify best practice in the field of Global Manufacturing and Supply Networks.
  • Identify key gaps in knowledge within the peer group and thereby provide an input to the forward agenda for the ongoing research activities of CIM.
  • For CIM to update the peer group on its latest activities in research and practical application.

Benefits of Attending

The benefits of attending the practitioner workshop are as follows:

  • Learn about leading practice as being implemented in major companies.
  • Learn about latest research from academia.
  • Share experience with peers undertaking similar roles in leading companies.
  • Influence the ongoing agenda of research at IfM.
  • Hear about ways of working together.

Who Should Attend

The workshop is aimed at senior executives in global manufacturing companies who are actively involved in optimising Global Manufacturing and Supply Networks. Attendance is limited to support a close-knit and intimate group dynamic and places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

Attendance will be restricted to non-competing companies: bookings will not be accepted if a competing company has already confirmed attendance. Discussions are held under the Chatham House Rule.

Agenda & Topics

The agenda will include updates on latest research and leading practice with contributions from the attending companies and IfM researchers. It will also include structured discussion and sharing on “hot topics” that are of common interest.

The topics will include:

  • Optimising global manufacturing and supply networks
  • Designing sustainable global networks
  • Risk and resilience in designing and operating global networks
  • Capability assessment and development in global networks
  • Emerging industries and how they develop global networks
  • Collaborative innovation within multi-partner global networks
  • Engineering and service networks
  • Emerging countries and emerging multi-nationals

The actual topics and final agenda will be decided following consultation with participating companies regarding their specific areas of interest.

Location

The workshop will be held at the Institute for Manufacturing, Cambridge, UK.

Programme

The workshop will commence, with pre-dinner drinks, at 18.30 on Wednesday 2 November 2011. The workshop will close at 17.00 on Thursday 3 November 2011.
